St. John Resident Goes for a Walk, Ends Up Winning $1M 649 Jackpot
It was a casual day for Ron Brocklehurst from St. John, Newfoundland and Labrador, as he went on a walk around Quidi Vidi Lake.
Life Changing Stroll
After his walk in the nature, Ron decided to stop at Stavanger Drive to buy himself a new pair of sneakers and then made another stop on his way home as he checked into Marie’s Mini Mart to buy a Lotto 649 ticket.
This St. John resident went to bed without suspecting a thing but woke up a $1 million richer man.
“The next morning I checked the ticket and – bingo. A million dollars. It took a little to sink in. ”, Brocklehurst said as he collected his windfall from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation on Wednesday.
Ron shared the news with his wife, Bonnie, who was in the bath when her husband discovered the big news.
“I said ‘What’s the commotion, what’s going on out there?’ and I heard Ron say, ‘I think I just won a million dollars.’ I didn’t believe it, really, right away, but I do now,” she said.
Ron and Bonnie have a son and a daughter and the couple’s plan is to make their kids’ lives a little bit happier. Bonnie would also like to do some travelling, while Ron has some plans of his own.
“Well I’ve got an eight-year-old vehicle that’s all duct-taped, so I’m probably going to replace it”, Ron said, adding that it is his son who is in charge with car shopping.
Ron’s big prize came rather handy for Marie’s Mini Mart as well as the store is up for a one per cent seller’s prize.
