Redevelopment of View Royal Casino Underway
Victoria-based View Royal Casino is undergoing a major overhaul that would see this gambling facility more than double its size.
The total of 350 new slot machines and electronic games are planned to be added at View Royal Casino in an upgrade which will include the addition of a 600-seat entertainment venue as well.
Dining facilities – buffet and a casual lounge bar – will also be added in an ambitious project that will add an extra 42,000 square feet to this gambling complex that is expected to be finished in the first part of 2018.
The reconstruction and redevelopment have begun with exterior wall and roof areas already demolished.
“I’m really glad to see that they’ve actually got underway”, Ciew Royal mayor David Screech said, commenting that the new redevelopment project will be good for the community, which receives about $1.8 million a year from the casino.
The money channeled from the casino is mainly used for capital projects.
“We use it to pay for West Shore parks and Recreation Society, for our annual fees in that”, he added.
The redevelopment is expected to help View Royal Casino become the ‘destination gaming facility’ in the British Columbia region, which is expected to receive another casino at a location that is yet to be determined.
About View Royal Casino
The View Royal Casino was opened back in 2001.
It is run by the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. and it currently features 15 table games. An extension plan to the casino was proposed a couple of years ago, but was put on hold in 2015 when the British Columbia Lottery Corp. considered building a second casino in the region.
The View Royal Casino generated $71.8 million in revenue last fiscal year, $4.1 million of which was distributed to seven municipalities.
