PokerStars Goes Live in Bulgaria as the Country's First Locally Licensed Site
The Stars Group-owned poker site, PokerStars, has become the first locally licensed online poker site in Bulgaria.
The launch of PokerStars.BG was announced by the Rational Group, the company which operates PokerStars.
The First and Only
With this move, the world’s largest online poker site once again starts its activities in Bulgaria. The State Gambling Commission awarded the license earlier this year, making PokerStars the first major international operator to enter the local market after the country changed its Gambling Act.
With this move, PokerStars.BG became the only regulated online poker site in Bulgaria at this time.
Rational Group’s Head of Corporate Communications, Eric Hollreiser, said PokerStars strived to be first-in-market when online poker’s licenses are available. He added the company was proud to be first licensed poker site in the country.
A Market With Lots of Potential
Hollreiser stated there was a lot of potential in the Bulgarian market, and that was the main reason the company had invested in the local license.
According to him, the license represents a recognition of the PokerStars platform and its reliability, and will provide confidence, integrity and security to consumers, while the regulation will offer additional protection.
Poker is very popular among Bulgarians. Possibly the most famous poker player from this Eastern European country is Dimitar Danchev, the winner of the Main Event of the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas.
Now each poker player in Bulgaria can enjoy his or her favourite game with any restrictions whatsoever, and compete with other players from around the world at www.pokerstars.bg, with plenty of new features and options.
Bulgaria is the latest addition to PokerStars’ portfolio of 11 licensed sites, which includes some of the biggest markets on the Continent, such as France, Italy and Spain.
