Hard Rock Takes Over Rideau Carleton Raceway
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has made its pick and selected Hard Rock International as a company that will be presented with the keys to Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Following a multi-year search and an extensive analysis that were supposed to provide answer towards the Raceway’s future, an experienced company to operate an expanded gaming facility has been found in Hard Rock.

OLG revealed a 20-year agreement has been signed with Hard Rock Casino Ottawa, announcing that its slot employees will all be transferred to Hard Rock under the agreement which stipulates the new owners must retain employees for at least 12 months.
Hard Rock Ottawa is also obliged to provide eligible employees with benefits and a registered pension plan.
On their own part, Hard Rock Ottawa unveiled that the new agreement over Rideau Carleton Raceway will create 1.900 construction jobs and 2,000 ongoing direct and indirect jobs included in the entire redevelopment process.
“That level of certainty for my constituents – that they’ll continue to have a job to go to after such uncertainty over the last five years – is a real relief for me,” said Lisa MacLeod, MPP, Nepean-Carleton.
Hard Rock Ottawa will invest more than $320 million to build an entertainment complex in rural part of Ottawa and the project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2017.
The first stage of construction will renovate the gaming floors and arrivals area, whereas later phases will include additions of Hard Rock Hotel, Hard Rock Live entertainment venue and a Hard Rock Café.
Once the entire project is done and a new tourist attraction emerged, Hard Rock Casino Ottawa will ultimately consist of about 140.000 square feet of gaming space filled with slot machines and table games.
The Raceway will remain fully functional as well and the venue is expected to have a broader market and economic benefits for the entire community.
