Stunning Casino and a Smashing $1.2m Win
The stunning Casino de Charlevoix in La Malbaie, about 150 kilometres (93 miles) east of Quebec City, is one of the nicest gambling settings in the world and last week it made one visiting player a millionaire.
The anonymous winner, aged in his late 50’s and visiting from Saguenay, won nearly $1.2 million after a spin $2.25 spin on a Powerbucks slot machine saw the planets line-up.
Since 2016, slot machines in Quebec casinos and on Loto-Québec’s website have now delivered 15 prizes worth $1 million or more albeit most land-based winners have come from venues much bigger than Casino de Charlevoix.
Charity Starts at the Casino
The Casino of the Rockies at St. Eugene, BC, recently made a ‘Found Money’ donation to the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) which supports projects and programs in the local community.
The total donation to the foundation was $4,478.97 entirely made up of ‘found money’ which is comprised of any monies left behind by casino patrons, such as the few cents that are left over when you cash out a slot machine ticket. The nickels and dimes clearly add up over time, enabling the Casino to make a substantial quarterly donation to a registered charity.
Massive Winners and Lottery Winners Waiting Their Turn
A Calgary man is $65m richer after winning Alberta’s largest ever lottery prize. In fact the lucky ticket holder, 63-year-old Tai Trinh, can lay claim to tying the largest lottery win anywhere in Canada.
On October 4 Trinh’s routine of stopping off at a Shell store to purchase a coffee and a Lotto Max ticket paid massive dividends. His investment was just $6 and his quick-pick ticket showed numbers: 20, 31, 35, 36, 39, 42, and 44 – all were drawn out.
Alberta has had a healthy share of Lotto Max millionaires over the past ten years. In Calgary alone there have been 29 winners, totalling $172 million. In Alberta, there have been 125 winners, who have won a collective $822 million.
Remarkably, there is more money waiting to be collected with the Western Canada Lottery Corporation recently confirming a $50 million winning ticket remains unclaimed from numbers drawn on August 30th. On that occasion the winning Lotto Max numbers were 5, 9, 33, 36, 39, 41, and 44. The owner of that golden ticket has until August 30, 2020, to claim their prize. And it could easily happen, in August, an Edmonton landscaper claimed a $60-million jackpot prize after sitting on his winning ticket for 10 months.
